A stab victim is recovering in hospital after being knifed in a fight in Thornton Heath

Members of the public alerted police on patrol to the fight between a group of men in Brigstock Road at about 8pm on Saturday.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a man in his 20s who was suffering from a stab wound.

He was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A Croydon police spokesman said his injury is minor.

A shop owner on Brigstock Road said: "This used to be a nice area but it is fast changing into something else.

"I didn't see what happened but I heard about it, apparently they were stabbed in the neck.

"It is not good at all, we should be pushing this kind of stuff out of society.

"I know a lot of people who have left the area due to incidents like this."

One resident said: "I am shocked. It makes me worried about my kids to go out in the street.

"It is horrible to hear stuff like this happen, I saw the police on Saturday but I didn't know what had happened. I suppose this is the way society is going.

'It is sad and it is not a good feeling to know someone has been hurt where you work and live."

One shopkeeper, near London Road, said: "All the road was cordoned off, I thought there had been an accident but was told by a policeman there had been a stabbing.

“There was a car on the side so I think it must have started at the top of the road then ended up further down the road.

“It is sad and it is not a good feeling to know someone has been hurt where you work and live."

Any witnesses to the stabbing are asked to call the police on 101.
