Following his death officers became aware that a group of off-duty medics, understood to be a doctor and at least one nurse, stopped to help him.

Police do not have their details and are looking to speak to the group about what they may have witnessed.

Officers were called to the crash at about 6.52pm by London Ambulance Service.

One witness said he came out of his Northdown Road home after hearing the smash and saw the motorcycle lying about 20 metres from where the rider had come off.

He said the motorcyclist had been travelling from Sutton when the bike and van crashed, knocking the rider off and sending the bike flying off down the road before it burst into flames.

An Air Ambulance also landed in the nearby church with a further four ambulances, two fire engines and officers from Sutton police all attending.

According to the Metropolitan Police a post-mortem examination held on April 27 gave cause of death as multiple injuries.

The male van driver was stopped at the scene but not arrested and officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merton continue to investigate.

Those with information, in particular the medics who assisted, are asked to call police on 020 8543 5157.
