A man has been charged with burgling a shop while armed with a crossbow.

Kane Sinclair, 21, of Lower Barn Road, Purley, appeared in court on Friday accused of stealing four handsets from a mobile-phone shop in Thornton Heath High Street.

Two men entered the shop at about 8.25pm on March 2 while the manager was in a neighbouring store.

One of them rested a crossbow on the counter while they stole the phones, before they left in the direction of Grange Park.

Mr Sinclair appeared via video-link at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court charged with aggravated burglary.

He has been bailed until he appears at Croydon Crown Court on June 5.

No other arrests have been made and police are continuing to investigate.
