Teenagers in Merton and Croydon can become fire cadets through schemes at two fire stations this year.
Mitcham and Croydon fire stations are running the fire cadets schemes in 2016-2017, and cadets will have the opportunity to gain a BTEC Level 2 in Fire and Rescue Services in the Community.
Running one evening a week for 12 months, the scheme teaches firefighting techniques, how to use breathing apparatus, first aid and casualty care and fire safety in the home and community.
Cadets must be aged 14-17. Those who complete the course can return for further training as a graduate cadet.
