A dance group from Croydon’s Brit School are to be the only all-male troupe to be selected to perform at the national Dance Proms.

The 21 acrobatic students, who perform under the name Khronos, will step onto the Royal Albert Hall stage in October for the groups’s sixth consecutive year of performing at “the biggest national youth dance celebration in the UK”.

Founded in 2009, the group is made up of dancers aged between 12 and 21 years-old.

On the night they are set to perform an original choreographed contemporary/urban dance called Torment the Damned, which explores the divine punishment and torment in the afterlife.

Dance groups from around the world and the UK submitted a video of an original dance for the chance to secure a place in the running order of just 22 performances.

Julia Dark, teacher at the Brit School, said: “We are honoured to be invited back once again to Dance Proms and proud to say we have performed every year since its launch.

“This is such a wonderful opportunity for young people to come together and share not only their talents but their love and passion for their art form.

“In today’s current political climate, I personally feel privileged to be able to share how arts training has benefited these young men, many of whom have had no prior formal dance training at all.”

Groups from as far away as Italy and Vietnam will join Khronos on the stage at Dance Proms 2016 on October 30.
