A four-way crash involving a lorry, a bus and two cars shut a major road in Purley this morning.

Drivers escaped with minor injuries after the collision in Brighton Road, at the junction with Old Lodge Lane, at about 10.40am.

Police, paramedics and two fire engines were sent to the scene.

A Transport for London spokesman said one of the cars involved had been shunted into the 166 bus after colliding with the lorry and another car.

Two people were treated for injuries at the scene with one later being taken to hospital, a London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

The injuries were not life threatening, police confirmed.

Buses were diverted but the road has since reopened.
