The mother of a teenager knifed to death just 10 minutes after she dropped him off at a friend's house said her life will "never be the same again".

Andre Aderemi, 19, cried out for his mum as he bled to death in a South Croydon street after being repeatedly stabbed last week.

He died in hospital despite paramedics desperately fighting to save his life in Heather Way on the Monks Hill estate on Tuesday.

Yemi Hughes had dropped her son off at a friend's home on the estate, where they lived until earlier this year, at 7.30pm that evening.

The mother-of-three said today: "I never thought this would be the last time that I saw him. By 7:40pm he had been brutally stabbed to death.

"I received a call to beg me to come as he was screaming for me but by the time I arrived the paramedics were fighting to save his life.

"I never got to see him alive again, to tell him how much I love him, to see his infectious smile, to cradle my baby in my arms and tell him that I would fix and make everything better."

At a church service held hours after Mr Aderemi’s killing last week, Ms Hughes said she had moved her family out of Monks Hill to Chatham, Kent, to “get him out of this environment".

The teacher, who is head of year 8 at her son’s former school, Oasis Academy Shirley Park, added: “Most importantly I want Andre’s friend to know I don’t blame you, I don’t blame any of you.

“Andre would not want me to sit here today with hatred in my heart.

“He is my baby and I’m not going to get him back.”

Four teenagers have been charged with Mr Aderemi’s murder.

Detective will hold an appeal in Monks Hill this afternoon as they urge any witnesses to his stabbing to come forward.

Ms Hughes said: “I am begging for witnesses to come forward and give their accounts so that myself and Andre's little brothers can get some closure and justice for my son's murder.

“Nobody should die the way that he did and I am devastated not only by the loss of Andre but also by the manner in which he died.

“Our lives will never be the same again so please if you know anything, no matter how small you think it is, can you pass it onto police."

Mr Aderemi’s death prompted an outpouring of grief in Monks Hill, where family, friends and residents have left dozens of bunches of flowers and emotional messages in tribute to the aspiring rapper, who performed under the name Dee Rose.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Price, who is leading the murder investigation, said: "We will be returning to the scene to trace any potential witnesses who may be able to assist with the investigation.

“Did you witness the incident last Tuesday or see a white vehicle on the estate that night? Did you see any other vehicles that may have been involved?

“Whilst enquiries are ongoing, we believe a number of people possibly fled the scene in a vehicle following the attack. Were any other individuals involved whom police are not already aware of?

“I am keen to speak with anyone who saw what happened.”

Three 19-year-olds - Jamall Longergan, of Woodcroft Road, Thornton Heath, Fabio Cela, of Fryston Avenue, Shirley, and Rodney Mukasa, of Green View Avenue, Monks Orchard - appeared at the Old Bailey this morning accused of stabbing the aspiring rapper to death in the Monks Hill estate on Tuesday.

Last night 18-year-old Ali Zahawy, of Bramble Close, Shirley, became the fourth teenager to be charged with the murder of Mr Aderemi.

He appeared before Croydon magistrates today.

A provisional trial date for the four accused of the murder has been set for February 13.
