A man was left “screaming in agony” after being hit by car outside West Croydon train station.

The man, aged in his 20s, was crossing London Road at about 3.15pm today when he was struck in a serious collision described by a witness as “like something out of an action movie”.

Toks Timson, who saw the crash, said: “The man got off the bus and walked out by the front of it and into the road like he was going to catch a bus from the other side of the road and the car hit him. It looked like a very mighty impact.

“He smashed the windscreen and landed on his back. It was like something out of an action movie, like you see one of those stunt guys do, but the worst thing was the sound. It was like a kind of crunch.

“The paramedics are with him now and they had to cut him out of his clothes and he was screaming in agony.”

A picture of the scene shows the man being covered with blankets as paramedics treat him.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed a man in his 20s had been injured in a “serious” collision and said officers were still at the scene.

London Road has been shut between Mead Place to Derby Road.
