A pair of troublemakers have been banned from drinking and begging after being handed down Asbos at Croydon Magistrates Court last week.

Juliette Roberts was arrested on August 12 last year for a string of offences including assaulting a police officer and being drunken and disorderly.

She was convicted in October 2008 and sentenced to a 12 month community order, pay £150 costs and attend an alcohol treatment programme.

Under the terms of the Asbo handed down last week, Roberts must not enter the area within Croydon Town Centre, carry an open vessel of alcohol in a public place within the borough or verbally abusive or be offensive to anyone in a public place.

Kevin Lambert was also given an Interim Asbo until a full hearing stars on June 11.

Until the hearing Lambert has been told he can not cause harassment, nuisance or annoyance by begging from anyone in any public place within the borough of Croydon.

Acting Borough Commander Adrian Roberts said: “Those travelling through East Croydon or visiting our shops and restaurants wish to do so without being harassed by persistent beggars.

"This interim ASBO gives local people reassurance that there are serious consequences of nuisance behaviour and that the police and council are keen to use the appropriate legislation at their disposal to ensure people continue to feel safe in Croydon.”
