Is Croydon facelift making a comeback after celebrity sighting?

The Croydon facelift is making a glamorous comeback after Nicole Kidman wore the age-defying hair style at a New York party.

The ponytail, worn by a lot of young women in the borough, involves tying back your hair so tightly any wrinkles are instantly ironed out. Critics say the look is better than Botox.

It has been satirised on TV by comedian Catherine Tate and Little Britain’s Vicky Pollard. Croydon style icon Kate Moss often wears the hairstyle, as does Sienna Miller.

Tana Bennett, who runs a hair salon in South Croydon, said the Croydon facelift has evolved from its chav roots and is now a sophisticated A list style. She appeared on Channel 5 last week to demonstrate how it is done.

She said: “The Croydon ponytail has gone, it is a thing of the past constricted to chewing gum, tracksuits, and big gold earrings. Nowadays we have taken Croydon to Hollywood and the catwalks.”

“It will be interesting to see now that Nicole Kidman has worn the style whether people think they can try it themselves.”

She warns not everyone can wear the style and you need a good bone structure to carry it off.

She said: “If you have the right structure that tight style can look very good.”
