When the proud grandmother of a severely premature baby decided to say a ‘big’ thank you to hospital staff for saving her grandson, she never expected it to be plastered across a giant billboard in London.
Joan Workman’s message to St Thomas’ Hospital staff was blown up in huge letters on Shoreditch High Street after her message was chosen to front the latest advertising campaign for chocolate bar Wispa Gold.
Her grandson Henry weighed just one-and-a-half pounds when he was born after just 24 weeks, and needed round-the-clock hospital care for three months.
Mrs Workman, from South Croydon, submitted the thank you message “Tiny Henry, in your incubator, should’ve been born 16 weeks later, but with Tommy’s care, when they look at you now, doctors and nurses just say WOW!”.
She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that I’ve been given the chance to share my happiness about Henry’s health and thank staff at St Thomas’ Hospital in such an unusual and special way.
“I’m so thankful for all their support and everything they did for my beautiful grandson.”
The campaign was launched by Rolf Harris in September, and has seen parent company Cadbury’s spend more than £2m handing over advertising space to members of the public.
