Despite the heavy snowfall and difficult conditions all services at Croydon University Hospital are running.

Patients are urged to attend booked appointments, even if they are running late.

A spokeswoman said: "If patients have a booked appointments or admission and it is safe for them to travel we are asking them to attend as all clinics are open.

"Even if they arrive late we will do our best to ensure they are seen as quickly as possible.

"A big thank you to all our staff who have made every effort to get through the snow to ensure it is business as usual."

All Croydon leisure centres are open except for Croydon Arena.

The Family Information Service will be closing at 4pm today and the libraries will shut at 3.30pm.

The council continues to grit priority roads and footpaths and has used 500 tonnes of grit so far with the fleet of 33 lorries covering 11,000 miles to keep Croydon's roads clear of snow and ice.

Almost 300 members of staff have been working long hours to keep the borough moving; there are 50 people working on the roads around the clock) and 240 clearing footpaths for 12 hours per day.

All waste and recycling staff unable to collect refuse are are helping to clear footpaths.

Residents are assured the council will resume refuse collections as soon as the roads clear and it is safe to do so.
