How sad. It does seem to be happening rather frequently these days. I was going into London today, but postponed it till tomorrow.

Anne
I work on the railways and I can tell you that December & January are the worst months for railway suicides, there were around 3 or 4 on the Southern Network alone during December and there were more on the South West trains network and there is nothing that can realistically be done to stop it. It is very sad as you say, especially when it is a young person involved.

One assumes that it was a suicide and of course with many of us suffering money and debt problems there is bound to be an increase at present. It could well have been a botched atempt at cable theft. In any case my thoughts are with the drivers of the trains who are involved - jumping in front of a train is a very selfish act.

I am so sad that Anne was inconvenienced, I hope she managed to get her trip. Maybe she could give a thought for the persons family and for the people that had to deal with the accident

All very sad and traumatic for the poor train driver.
However... is there any reason why these incidents bring the entire network to a standstill? There are suicides on LUL and they have learned to cope.
At Victoria last night it was chaos and nobody seems to have a clue what is going on. The platform staff were useless. Is there not any contingency plan for this sort of incident? It is not right that the travelling public have to be so massively inconvenienced. I think southern Railway and Network Rail should get a grip.
