Firefighters rescued a man threatening to jump from scaffolding in Croydon last night.

The crew, from Croydon fire station, were called to Church Street at about 11pm after being alerted to a man, believed to be in his 40s, threatening to jump.

The electricity had to be turned off the tram line so the crew could safely use a cherry picker to bring the man to safety.

One firefighter said: "We went straight up there and got him, there were no negotiations.

"As soon as we brought him down he was arrested and taken away by police."

Depression will probably be relevant yes. There's nothing here to suggest drunkenness specifically.

Depression can be powerful enough to make you suicidal without other substances being involved.
