A man has been jailed for six years for a violent attempted robbery where he stabbed the victim.

Chakat Ismail, of Sylvan Hill, Crystal Palace, was sentenced after being found guilty of assault with intent to rob.

Croydon Crown Court heard the incident took place on July, 18 last year in Beulah Heights Park, Upper Norwood.

The victim, a 42-year-old man was using his laptop in the park.

Ismail walked past the man twice, before confronting him shortly after he packed his computer away and was leaving the park.

Ismail, 20, tried to grab the bag and a struggle ensued during which Ismail pulled a knife and stabbed the victim three times in the chest.

The victim was taken to hospital where his wounds were glued together.

Ismail left the park after failing to get hold of the laptop and bag, but police were called and quickly arrived to carry out a search of the area.

They stopped Ismail who matched a description given to them and arrested him.

He denied any involvement in the incident, but was later picked out of an ID parade.

Although the knife used during the assault has never been recovered, Ismail was also sentenced to two years for possession of an offensive weapon. Both sentences will run concurrently.

DC Hayley Kennedy, from Croydon CID, who investigated the case: "This was a violent assault, which could so easily have left the victim with extremely serious injuries- thankfully the victim was able to walk away from the incident without major injury.

"The offender thought nothing of pulling the knife- all to try and steal a laptop computer- and even though he was arrested near the scene and picked out in a line-up continued to deny his involvement.

Makes you wonder how long this lowlife scumbag would have got if he had done the crime in the Judges leafy rural village? Probably double figures, I certainly think Judges consider postcodes
prior to sentencing!

Why is it that some awful people in this country see something in public and think to themselves, "I want that, and i'm going to take it, and I will stab someone to get it" what vile, horrid, nasty, people. I am afraid we need politicians in Government who need to change course and come up with severe penalties for this type of crime, six years is simply not severe enough.

It appears this individual has fallen out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
As a child his Mother fed him via catapult!
I bet as a child his mother had to tie a porkchop round his neck just so the dog would play with him!

Six years though, for what is really attempted murder (He stabbed the man 3 times in the chest. Any person would know that course of action is likely to result in death, ergo he attempted to murder him)
Is it any wonder that criminals have no fear these days, they know they can do what they like, stab and rob people and they will get derisory sentences like this

I think that the length of the prison sentence is too short.
He should be doing a twenty year stretch at least.
whilst he is in prison i hope that the authorities are checking his immigration status and then deport him on completion of his time spent in prison.....he won't be able to get a job due to his conviction and will simply be a burden on the welfare state as well as a danger to the public !!!!!!!!!!!!
