Firefighters are urging people to recycle waste instead of burning bonfires.

The recent snap of warmer weather has meant more people are lighting fires in their back gardens to get rid of rubbish.

But fire crews are receiving calls from angry neighbours who are being smoked out by the burning leaves.

The fire service said people should recycle the waste instead, which could also be put in a dust bin or a bin bag.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “There have been a number of bonfires because of the nice weather, but they are a nuisance and causing problems for people.

“The amount of it could be put in the dust bin or a bin bag, or recycled with garden waste schemes.

“People are just being inconsiderate to other neighbours by doing a bit of spring cleaning, people are being smoked out by just a few burning leaves.”
