This was the moment a Ford Fiesta turned into a fire ball in Woodcote yesterday.
Firefighters were called to Woodcote Valley Road, close to the border of Sutton, just before 2.50pm to put out the blaze.
Sanjiv Patel who witnessed the incident said: "I heard some shouting outside my house and ran out to see the Fiesta on fire.
"Some neighbours were trying to tackle it with buckets of water but were not able to as the flames were over 10ft high and there was a risk of explosion.
"There were two males in the vehicle who said they had just bought it and were driving it home when they noticed smoke coming from the dashboard.
"They promptly parked up and got out but within seconds the bonnet burst into flames."
The crew from Wallington fire station closed the road and had extinguished the flames by 3.10pm.
Mr Patel added: "The fire engine response was brilliant, they were around six minutes, but before they could talk to the boys they had left the scene."
