A man is taking legal action against Croydon Council after claiming he was run over by a tow truck that was taking his sister’s car away.

Matthew Bullas, 34, from Caldy in the Wirral, was staying at the Jurys Inn Hotel, in Wellesely Road, Croydon, after attending a friend’s wedding.

On September 9, Mr Bullas said he was struck by the council vehicle after he confronted the driver for taking his sister’s car away.

His sister’s partner had parked the car outside the hotel on a yellow line to pick up their luggage.

Mr Bullas returned six minutes later to find his the vehicle being towed away in Landsdowne Road.

He said he told the drivers his sister was on her way out with the bags, but they ignored him.

They then started to lift the car in the air and told him it was too late to put it down.

Mr Bullas said they started to drive off, but it was when the vehicle turned around further down the road and started driving back towards him, that he was hit.

He said he was knocked about six feet in front of the vehicle bruising his shoulder and wrist and causing grazes.

Mr Bullas said: “From my perspective I will be taking some legal action on the incident. I will deal with this directly with the council.

“The driver told the police I threw myself in front of her. I have got an independent witness to say that was not the case.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called to the scene just before 10am on Sunday.

"It was reported that a tow truck had been involved in a collision with a male pedestrian.

“Officers attended and offered to call for an ambulance but this was declined. No offences were reported and we are not investigating at this stage.”

A council spokesman said: “The council treats any complaint such as this extremely seriously.

“We understand police say no offence has been reported and that an offer to call an ambulance was declined by the pedestrian.”
