Malcom Wicks to be posthumoulsy granted Freedom of the Borough

Malcolm Wicks is to be posthumously granted Freedom of the Borough.

The Croydon North MP died after losing his battle with cancer on September 29.

A married father-of-three and grandfather-of-seven, Mr Wicks had represented Croydon since 1992 and had lived in the borough for 30 years.

The decision to make the 65-year-old Freeman of the Croydon was announced by the Councillor Mike Fisher and Councillor Tony Newman, at the full council meeting on Monday.

Paying tribute to Mr Wicks, Coun Fisher said the honour would be a "fitting tribute for a man who gave so much to Croydon and was Croydon through and through."

Coun Newman said: "He was a politician who gave politicians a good name. He was a decent man, a family man, a man of integrity.

"The honour is particularly valued by Malcolm's wife Margaret and his family."

A memorial service is taking place at 11am on Friday at Croydon Minster.
