Roads, trains and trams across south London have been badly affected by Friday's torrential downpours.

Commuters face long journeys home from work as rails bosses were forced to close Victoria station.

Trains from Sutton to Victoria were suspended and services from Epsom to the busy station were also stopped.

In South Croydon a landslide meant the train station was forced to shut.

Four lines were closed immediately, but two quickly re-opened.

A Southern Trains spokesman said there were severe problems at Victoria station due to the flash rain storm.He said: "We have the lines shut at Thornton Heath and Norbury, so obviuosly there are extreme difficulties getting in and out of Victoria."He said the crucial message to workers in the city hoping to get home to south west London subrurbs was not to leave work early."At the moment this is a very bad time to travel, but we should get back to near-normal by the end of the day."The spokesman added that due to a landslide in South Croydon, two of the four Southern trains lines had been knocked out of action.East Grinstead and Uckfield stations were out of use at 1.15pm.In Wandsworth, reporter Paul Cahalan, on the ground, said main roads were busy and there was a lot of standing water, but there did not appear to be any flooding near Wandsworth Town station.Clapham junction was also functioning. In Battersea, firefighters were under two feet of water at their Este Road station. A crew member said: "We are so busy at the moment, I can even tell you exactly what is going on, but there are several large fires going on in Battersea."London Fire Brigade has already dealt with 300 fires in the capital today, particularly badly affected areas are Sutton, Croydon, Lewisham and Wallington.

Colliers Wood Tube station on the Northern Line was also closed as London's public transport network struggled to cope with the almost Biblical rains.

Wimbledon and South Wimbledon were still open on Friday afternoon. The town's mainline station suffered minor flooding at the outside taxi rank but rail services are still operating.

Croydon's Tramlink network was brought to a complete standstill as flood waters washed out of town centre shops.

Roads across the region also suffered and drivers were forced to take find alternative routes.

In Sutton cars parked in Trafalgar Road and surrounding streets were submerged in filthy water.
