Croydon is one of London's most overcrowded boroughs and is building a below average percentage of family homes.

A survey, by Inside Housing, has revealed that just seven per cent of the affordable homes built in Croydon last year was family sized.

Families in Croydon face a decade-long wait for homes big enough from the council and that is set to get even longer if the current trend continues.

Tower Hamlet was ranked the most overcrowded borough in London Councils after it saw just 124 affordable family homes built last year compared with 923 one or two-bedroom properties.

In five London boroughs less than 10 per cent of market housing built over the same period had three or more bedrooms.
