Inventors often require secrecy – but for a charity calendar, they were happy to bare all.

Following in the footsteps of the Women’s Institute and Croydon Cat Protection League, the borough’s innovators decided to strip off for a special charity calendar.

Not only will the 12 beautiful bodies be available to adorn fridges everywhere, but the calendar will also be packed full of useful information on the Croydon Round Table of Inventors (RTI) and their inventions.

The calendar was created by the Croydon RTI and ideas21, the UK’s network for inventors.

Money raised will be donated to two charities Cancer Research and Motivation which works in developing countries to improve the quality of life for disabled people.

Barry Slayford, founder of the Croydon RTI and February’s naked inventor, said: “One of our inventors Steve Capon came up with the idea of making a calendar.

“We thought it was a great way of raising money for charity and publicising the work of inventors in Croydon. We had a photo shoot over three days at Tiger Tiger in Croydon. Even the photographer Duncan Shackley took his clothes off.

“Each of the inventors pose with their invention, and it’s packed full of information on their products and all the Croydon RTI’s important dates.

We didn’t realise how much work it would be, but it was worth it because currently the calendar is selling well.” The Naked Inventor Calendar 2004 was launched at the British Inventions Show at the Barbican on November 6 when Croydon’s inventors also earned themselves several awards. For more information or to buy a calendar email croydonrti@aol.com.
