Two Croydon schools have received cash prizes in recognition of their environmental work.
St James the Great Primary and Nursery School in Thornton Heath won £2,000 after being awarded a distinction in the London Schools Environment Awards, organised by London mayor Ken Livingstone.
Gresham Primary School was highly commended for its environmental work and received £1,000 at an awards ceremony at City Hall.
Wildlife presenter Bill Oddie presented the awards and Fame Academy star and Eurovision hopeful James Fox entertained guests.
The awards have been created to develop children's sense of responsibility for their environment by learning about the need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste and to save energy.
