Making tracks: SLT is looking to extend the tram to areas such as Crystal Palace
More than 80 per cent of people are in favour of Croydon's tram network being extended, according to our survey.
So far more than 75 per cent of people who responded to the survey in the February 23 edition of the Croydon Guardian believe the proposed extensions would be worth the money.
Lobby group South London Trams (SLT) believes the extension of the network would bring environmental as well as economic benefits, citing studies showing unemployment in areas served by Tramlink has fallen faster than in areas without it.
SLT has been looking at extensions which would bring the tram to Biggin Hill, Lewisham, Kingston, Sutton, Purley, Coulsdon and Crystal Palace.
The Crystal Palace spur is listed in the mayor of London's £10billion transport strategy which sets out his priorities for the next five years.
But according to the results of our poll, the most popular proposed extension is the link from Purley to Streatham running through central Croydon, Thornton Heath and Norbury.

One tram supporter, John Kennedy, from South Croydon, said: "I may be biased but I have always liked trams. I had many trips as a schoolboy on the old ones until I was 15."
But Miss Ellison from West Croydon said: "The tram has not proved cost effective so why waste more money on extending it."
