On the day Croydon's Big Brother contestant seemed to come out of her shell the 19-year-old suffered something of a slip-up.

Vanessa Layton-McIntosh, from New Addington, had been accused of being the quiet housemate in Channel Four's reality TV show. But after surviving eviction last Friday, when all the housemates faced the public vote, she took jumping for joy too far and ended up spraining her ankle.

Celebrating her success in the bedroom after a couple of glasses of wine, Vanessa tried leaping from bed to bed only to slip and injure her foot. The business studies student at Brunel University, who was responsible for all 12 housemates being up for eviction by talking about nominations, feared the public would turn against her.

But instead it was fellow Team Britney member Lesley who got the boot. Odds from bookmakers for Vanessa to win stood at 33/1 as the Croydon Guardian went to press.
