A man has appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of a 35-year-old man after a shooting in Thornton Heath last week.

Norman Delopp, from Thornton Heath, died after being shot in the back last Thursday night.

The shooting happened at around 8.40pm in Princess Road, Thornton Heath. Police were called after an injured man was seen in the road 15 minutes later.

Mr Delopp was taken by ambulance to Mayday Hospital but was pronounced dead at 9.45pm.

A postmortem held last Friday found he died of a gunshot wound to the back.

Detectives from Operation Trident, which was set up in 1998 by the Metropolitan Police to tackle gun crime in black communities, are investigating.

Craig Barley, 18, from Morval Road, Brixton, appeared in court last week. The case was sent to Croydon Crown Court.

Another 34-year-old man has also been arrested in connection with the shooting and has been bailed to return to a south London police station in early March.

Detective Chief Inspector Ashley Sharp, who is leading the investigation, says circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

He is appealing to anyone who may have seen an altercation or unusual vehicle in Princess Road, Henderson Road or Whitehorse Road at the time of the murder to contact police.

Anyone with information or who was in the area at the time of the shooting is asked to call the incident room on 020 8247 4554. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
