It is not every day a Dalek, a Reliant Robin and an instrument belonging to an international classical music star can be found under the same roof, but they will be at a collectors' fair due to be held in Croydon.

Robin George and Gary Pope will host their music and movies memorabilia fair at Airport House in Purley Way on Sunday, May 14.

During the day the men from Purley will auction a signed electric violin from millionaire entertainer Vanessa Mae.

"The violin has been played all over the world, including on TV adverts. It's great to have it and mine and Gary's daughters play the violin so that's lovely," Robin explained.

Vanessa donated the violin to raise money for breast cancer charities and Robin's friendship with her manager helped him get the instrument.

The collectors hope it fetches at least £2,500, but Robin feels it may make more. The money will be split between Breast Cancer Haven and the International Breast Cancer Study Group.

"I'm confident and I think it could go up as high as three or four thousand pounds," he said.

The collectors fair will be the first the pair have hosted in Croydon a decision which came after years of attending other people's events and deciding they could organise one better.

Robin added: "One side of it is a business venture but you also get to meet some great people.

"We always found ourselves coming out of fairs and saying If I was running that fair' so we put our money where our mouths are."

Traders from all over the country are expected to attend. The green Ford Capri and trademark Reliant Robin of Derek Del Boy' Trotter from TV's Only Fools And Horses will be on show as well as Daleks, Beatles and Laurel and Hardy memorabilia.

Robin joked: "We want to make it a real family day rather than just an event for anoraks."

The event is being held at Airport House next Sunday between 10am and 4pm.

Tickets are £1.50 for anyone over the age of 12 and free raffle tickets will be handed out on arrival.
