Evren is my cousin but more like my older brother. I am so full of mixed emotions. I am angry that they persisted in hurting him. He even tried to get back into his car! HE DIDNT EVEN TOUCH THEM! Not ONE person has anything bad to say about Evren. I love you so much Evren, I will never ever forget about you. You are my role model for life and I will follow in your foot steps just like you've always wanted me to. I'll always call your name out and make sure you are remembered for the rest of our days. InshAllah, Allah will punish those that have brought perish to us, they will never know what it feels like to lose such a perfect man like yourself.

Evren was one of good men among his contemporary. He was friendly, soft in heart and very respectfull. He has just completed his degree and we had great expectation from him to be a role model for especially Turkish-speaking community. Unfortunatelly, some idiots ruined his life and we have to wait for another role model would be nurtured. I am very sad and missed him so much. I will remember him in my life and he will be all the time in my prayer. Allah cc bless him...

Evren was a voluntary teacher with us at Anatolia School. He was loved by the students and the staff. I still can't believe that we lost him, as we were hoping to benefit from him as role model and a teacher for our community. But as we believe that he left this world but we will be together for forever in hereafter. May Allah treat him with his mercy and grant him His cennet. I met Evren through the Dialogue events which he often presented and at which I was sometimes a speaker. He was such a warm hearted man who lit up the room. When he smiled noone could help but smile with him. His calmness and confidence in front of 100's of people affected me. Our community has lost a bright star but he must be really beloved of Allah to be taken back so young. We've been blessed to have had 23 years of him on this earth and inshallah he will go straight to cennet. To Evren's family, you are in my prayers. May Allah give you strength and patience. Evren was a credit to you and will live on in our memories.

We're thinking of you at this sad, sad time and hope that the words below will mean somthing to those that are left behind picking up the pieces.

"When we lose someone we love
The loss seems too great to bear
God sends us friends to comfort us
To show that He deeply cares

But in the dark hours of the night
When there’s nobody else around
When we feel the saddest and loneliest
It’s there God’s love can be found

It’s like a soothing, healing balm
To soothe our broken hearts
The healing oil poured over us
That flows into every part

We can rest secure in God’s love
And know He’s by our side
He holds us when we feel as though
A part of us has died

We can know that God will listen
When we just want to talk
And when we feel we need to cry
We can share it with the Lord

For He is always waiting there
Ready with arms open wide
As we pour out the hurt within
He pours His love inside

Our Father above loves us so much
And will never leave us alone
He will not forsake us in our need
To face this on our own

He comforts us and strengthens us
And rubs us with His balm
And as the dawn breaks through the night
We’ll awake in His loving arms."

I am a Christian who met Evren through events held by the Interfaith Dialogue Society. I am deeply saddened by his sudden death and my heart goes out to his family and friends. So many speak of Evren "lighting up a room". This is what Muslims call 'nur' or 'noor' and is the light of Allah shining through a person of great faith. This was Evren. It is up to us to honour Evren's memory by making sure God's light continues to shine through us to illuminate the darkness that took him from us. I pray for your soul, Evren, and for your family. Don’t really know where to begin when writing this message. I have known and have the pleasure of Calling Evren (Or Ev as he was known by most) since the age of three. He was more like a brother my own flesh and blood than just a friend. Even as I type this message, the fact that he is gone has still not sunk in. He was and still is my oldest and most cherished friend. I remember him from the cheeky faced youngster with a massive head of thick black hair, to the beautiful human being and young man that he had become.
Ev was the sort of person who made everyone in the room smile; he had a lasting effect on anyone he met even if they had met him for as little as five minutes.
Generous, caring, loving, noble, understanding, intelligent, spiritua
l and a true friend, these are just words and do no justice in describing the sort of person Evren was and the true nature of his soul.
What makes this more painful is thinking of the bright future that lay ahead of him had it not been so callously snatched away. He would have made a devout husband and incredible father (anyone who saw the way he was with children will agree), things like this we will never get to witness because such a tragic event over a matter so trivial. He was so happy and more importantly healthy, I am the one who drinks and smokes it seemed much more likely to me that he would attend my funeral instead of the other way round.
In his life and by the example he lead he touched the hearts of so many, in his death he has left all those met wanting to be a better person, in truth I believe I am a better person just for having known him.
I know Ev would want me to forgive those that did this to him that is the sort of incredible man he was, but at the moment I just cannot do that.
I still cannot believe I never got to say goodbye, I would quite happily give up the gift of speech just to be able to speak to him one more time and tell him how much he meant to me and how much I will miss him.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family whose pain I’m sure is beyond compare. If your watching or listening mate I want you to know I will do all in my powers to help to try and ease the pain of their loss. I will never forget you of that I am sure. Until we meet again… Sean

DONT KNOW HOW TO BEGIN THIS AS AT THIS VERY MOMENT I AM VERY EMOTIONAL AND THINKING OF ALL THEM GOOD MOMENTS I HAD WITH EVREN. ALTHOUGH I ONLY KNEW HIM 4 A COUPLE OF YEARS HIS WAS ALWAYS SUPPORTING ME WITH MY SCHOOL WORK AND ALWAYS TOLD ME TO KEEP OUT OF TROUBLE. THE THING THAT REALLY HURTS IS THAT HE NEVER LIKED VIOLANCE AND ALWAYS TRIED TO KEEP ME AND MY FRIENDS AWAY FROM IT. I WOULD OF NEVER EXPECTED HIM TO DIED THIS WAY BUT WATCH HIM GROW OLDER INTO HIS BRIGHT FUTURE. HE LIKE MY OLDER BROTHER, LIKE MY IDOL AS I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE LIKE HIM KIND, CARING AND HARD WORKING. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU EVREN, YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN. I WILL REMEMBER HIM THROUGH HIS ACTS AND KINDNESS.

I'm not quite sure what to write or whether I have the right to even comment at all. I didn't know Evren Anil. The only time I have been in his company is when he dropped a few friends (one of them being his cousin) and myself home one night. Even this guesture, I guess, shows us a glimpse of the type of person he was. As unbelievable as this is, although I was in his presence for probably no more than ten minutes, he is one of those people that you warm up to immediately and you can sense the decency and goodness in him straight away. From what I have read in articles about his achievements and what I have heard about his modesty and good deeds through those who knew him well, I am shocked that the world has lost such an idol. Humans like Evren are incredibly hard to find and his death has affected those who he didnt even know in great ways. They say the good die young. This however does not mean that his fate could have been decided in the hands of two wortless youths who undoubtedly will not contribute to this world in any positive way at all. I pray that Allah gives his loved ones the patience to cope with his death as I can not imagine what they must be going through. All I can say now is that I hope those of us remaining will be inspired by the life which Evren lead and will do our best to try to be more like him. The ignorant animals whos' actions has resulted in his death must be punished...

I ask the One Who Guides to Guide us all to live better lives and learn from Evren all the good that many know about him and all the good that we did not know about him. It saddens me he is gone but we must all realise our time is fixed so let this incredible loss make us realise to live our lives in a way pleasing to our One and Only God. Value life minute to minute not birth to death.

My heart felt condolences go out to Evren's family especially Elif and Ozzie who are very much in my thoughts at this very sad time. It takes a very brave person to stand up to the yobs of today. Whether it be for the well being of others, or for the upstanding of a decent community. It takes an even braver person to decide that enough's enough and make radical changes to the current laws on gun/knife crime, youth related violent crimes and anti social crime....take heed Prime Minister Brown! Bring back national service for these respectless yobs and teach them the values of respect for themselves and for others. Evren's life was taken at a time when his future was bright. While others "enjoyed" their lives to the full, Evren chose to sacrifice his time and study instead. He too could have joined these mindless yobs, he too could have carried knives to terrify others and be evil but he knew that his way was the right one and he tried to show his way to others to so that all could benefit from it. How hurtful it is to know that such a person whose smile never failed to make others do the same has gone forever before his time was due. I was a Metropolitan Police officer for more than 30 years and I am ashamed that the Government and the senior police officers have allowed the streets to have been taken over by the sort of low life who murdered a thoroughly decent and well educated young man about to embark on his chosen career. All of us, no matter what our background, must stand up against this form of anarchic behaviour. Please do not let Evren's death be in vain. My mother was treated in the Intensive Care Unit at King's College Hospital at the same time as Evren. I would like to pay tribute to the warmth, generosity and courage of Evren's family. We spent many anxious moments together as we waited for news of our loved ones. Having experienced the amazing hospitality of the Turkish people during a recent 6 week visit to their country, I am disgusted and ashamed that such a heinous crime could be committed against a Turk in my own country.

Both Evren's family and my family spent a few days and nights in the waiting room of ITU. The families became very close to each other. We often consoled each other.
Allah always brings good people together, be it in difficult times. We began to thing of Evren as part of our family. We always prayed for Evren each time we prayed for our mother. People have quoted that Envren was alway smiling and brought the room to life, well we recall seeing Evnren's mother in the same manner. Smiling and enliving the waiting room even though going through tremendous pain and agony. Infact all the good words mentioned about Evren echo for Evren's entire family.

I was so shocked when I read about the Evrens death in the papers, I couldnt believe it!!! I have been known him for the last 2 years, I remember the days when he was studying in Uni. He was really the person as known by everybody. I have no words to say to the thugs who had done it and keep doing it on the streets.....

I feel sorry for his family and his friends and everybody who known him, because I know the feeling when you lose your beloved one(close friend). Rabbim cennetine koysun....

I only know Evren from the beautiful things that I have read about him on this website and the press. He achieved so much and God blessed him. I only have anger for those pathetic no-brained ignorant dogs that did this to him. They will never achieve 0.001% of what Evrin achieved in his life. May Allah give his family patience - they will be re-united with him again soon.

Andy Sanders, Crystal Palace says...

I am a resident in Crystal Palace, a short walk from where Evren was murdered. It's yet another senseless theft of a life of a good person. We need a zero tolerance of motiveless violence like this. Bring back the death sentence if necessary. Why should scum who kill over a bar of chocolate be allowed to live amongst us?

Yusuf Avsar, Clapham says...

I knew Evren Anil for over ten years. We even played for Croydon City for 2-3 seaons.
Evren was and still is an amazing and beautiful person who was so kind, caring, loving and always had others' best interests at heart. A true humanitarian.

There are no words in the English or Turkish language that one could use to articulate an obituary for Evren Anil; that will do him justice.

My heart goes out to his family, Niyazi abi, Esi, Bulent, Ozgur and Elif. I am always thinking of you am here for you all.

Evren is a star; although he is not here with us physically his light will always shine for years to come until one day, one by one are reunited with this Angel.

I like my Uncle Selahattin was very lucky to have known Evren. It is so so painful and hard to accept - emotions are all over the place.

I love you Evren Anil.

Evren's family are close family friends to us and although we did not see each other as my brothers, dad, and uncles did; I still knew what a great person he was because everybody spoke so highly of him. It is such a shame and waste for an intelligent and wonderful person like him to die because of stupid yobs that deserve to die... To my dear friend
How do you start a sentence which has already reached a full stop?
How to you wave goodbye to a child hood friend?
How do you wake up knowing you will no longer be there?
How do you fly to heaven without wings?
How do you hide from your shadow?
How do i let go of a familiar hand?
After sitting here over several days contemplating the absence of you from my life, i have realised you have not left us, maybe in body however your beautiful memories will forever be buried in our hearts.
You have gone but your memories lives on.
The sun still shines
The stars still sparkle,
The grass is still green
The wind still blows,
My heart still beats,
The rain still pours
The clock still ticks
And the world still revolves,
But what lacks is the absence of you
People cry ,people weep
but i smile as your soul lives on.
Lots of love, a city full of kisses, an ocean filled with wishes and a paradise filled with hugs.
We will meet again my brother, Inshallah

I can’t even imagine a life without you, could this be right or am I dreaming. How do we accept the loss of an angel, one that still had unfinished work to do. Maybe it is something you started for us to finish; maybe you were here to show us the light and road to happiness, only time will tell.

It is truely a shame that someone who was loved by so many and had so much to offer should be lost to his family and many friends

I know many members of your community and know how much Anils loss has hit the very close community Anil comes from

I cannot and dare not imagine what Elif feels or how she will even begin to recover from such a loss and the fact that she was there to see the attack take place

I would just like to say that by a big chance these two young youths were most probably a part of a gang and had a big ego and courage to start an arguement and end it in this way - like they had accomplished something good... It shows that when youths say that gangs are made from groups of friends backing each other, Evren's situation shows that they start their own troubles and do kill alot of young innocent people in the street for no reason. SO HOW LOW CAN THEY REALLY GO? Life is a gift and not a game. Well were do I start. I first met Evren 3 years ago playing for
Croydon city he came across as not only a leader but as a very
Inspirational person a kind of person you only get to meet
Once a life time. As our friendship blossomed I began to feel
Very lucky and privileged to have met such a special friend
And someone who would take a bullet for a fellow friend with a
Smile on his face.

On the last Sunday I saw Evren we had just finished football
Practice and I remember him telling me how enthusiastic he was
About the coming football season it was like we had won the league
Without kicking a ball and I smiled and said to myself as long as
Your playing along side us there is nothing we can’t accomplish.

I believe we will win the league with Evren’s spirit playing along side
Us and guiding us into every game and become a better team with
The invaluable experience he has given the team and people around
Him may god rest your soul in the kingdom of heaven our friend
Our brother and our Inspiration.

I still miss him very much...It is always the brightest lights that are missed the most! Stay strong and look after one another to get you through this terrible time (it was the only thing that got my family and myself through it when we lost our David). I am proud to say that Evren was a school friend of mine...when i think about my school years he definitely made it a better time of my life, Playing basket ball after school with him, football and P.E lessons, and his sense of humor...every memory i have of Evren is always followed by making me smile. My deepest sympathy goes to the Anil family but i pray their faith will provide them with comfort. Im sure i can speak for everyone who knew him by saying we will never forget him. RIP Bro'

I really don’t know what to say or think any longer as reality is hitting me now that my beloved brother has been taken away from me, my family and his friends. I am so angry of what has happened to him and never came to terms how my brother was taken away from us. It kills me that every morning when I wake up that he is in my dreams and never forgetting the day when he was so brave and stood up to those two thugs on the 5th August that day will never be wiped out of my memories as I saw my brother dieing. I want yobs and people like them to know how much pain they have caused me and my family for the past 7 months. Ignorance will never get you far in life and do not ever forget that what comes around goes around. May Allah give them the punishment that they deserve.
I loved Evren from the bottom of my heart and would of done anything for him, he was the youngest, so I always felt that I had to protect him from this Evil minded world. I know that he is in a much better place but I just wish I can accept this. Seeing the tears in my mothers eyes as she remember Evren’s, kills me more and more each day, people say that the pain heals in time, but its not true, the pain gets locked up in your emotions and it catches up on you when you least accept it. I miss my brother sooo much and can say to anyone that I got to meet the most generous, kindest, giving, loyal, couraged, person in my life. Thank you so Much to everyone for there generous and kind words about my brother. May Allah once again reunite me with my brother in Cennet. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH MY SWEET SWEET BROTHER.

I hung the newspaper of Evren which is regarding his funeral over the wall in my house just to wake me up everyday and never fall asleep as for the fact that there is an eternal life each time I look at the paper.

May God you the stable patience to his family.

With peace.

May Allah rest Evren Anil’s soul in peace.

I remember going through the skin heads (National Front members) **** bashing period of early 1970s through 70s. At least that's what the people in England called that period. A lot of the south asians were targeted by the skin heads gangs in east london -Bengalis of Aldgate East, Indians & pakis of Ilford, Plaistow, and Forest Gate - and West Indian blacks of Brixton. Though I no longer live in England anymore, nonetheless I've kept in touch with events in England - especially East and south London - and I'm not at all surprised after I reading of Evren Anil’s sorrowful death. I at once knew that that was the works of white anglo saxons gangs who will leave no stone unturned to hound and harress south asians, blacks, and other minority communities living in England all the way to their graves. Off course, pakis wouldn't accept this kind bashing and so they retaliated and hence the term **** bashing. But all they were doing was self defending themselves and that they did that well. That's why they were dispised by the whites in England after that - up till today - Oldham is a good example of how well they defend their territory. The Indians being of mellow nature accepted this kind of bashing as normal thing and were thus subjected to all kinds of nonsense from shop looting to being driven out of white stronghold neighbourhoods. Police in south London - especially Brixton - colluded with the white supremist groups back then as they too disliked the blacks. I can recall Croydon being the HQ of the National Front party back then. The white anglo saxon caucasians in England haven't changed their attitude much towards minorities even after 40 years have elapsed. After having ruled over the world for centuries, they cannot shrug off their white supremacist mentality

I did not know Evren but having read about him I felt compelled to express my sadness that he was taken away from his family, friends and community. To Evren's family, I wish to express my utmost and sincerest condolences. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of your loss. From what I have read about his rich and rewarding life Evren was, and still is, an inspiration and example to us all and his family have every right to be proud of such a great human being. Words cannot express the growing anger I feel within about why those who cause these tragedies are not suitably dealt with.
Basiniz sag olsun.

As with many on here, I never knew the man, but have followed the case closely. The verdict today is unbelievable. To the family and friends of Evren, I offer my condolences. As a teacher I always try and look on the good side of teenagers, but more and more I find my concience being tested by casese like this. An absolute tragedy.

Evren Anil is a brave, honourable young man for standing up to these dirty scumbag cowards. My proverbial glass is raised for him.
