Waddon byelection: Voters decide on future councillor
11:40am Thursday 12th February 2009 in
Residents in Waddon began to cast their votes for a new councillor to replace the former Mayor Jonathan Driver who died on New Years Eve.
Polling booths for the Waddon byelection opened at 7am across the ward and will stay open until 10pm when the votes will be counted at the Town Hall in Katharine Street.
Waddon is the most marginal ward of Croydon Council and has seen its representation swap between the Labour and Conservative parties for many years.

In 1994, Labour won all three seats. Then, in 1998, the ward returned one Labour and two Conservative councillors, one of whom defected to the Liberal Democrats.
In 2002, Labour won all three seats, albeit with one of them scraping home with a majority of eight votes.
In the 2006 elections, Waddon returned three Conservative councillors.
There are six polling stations where voters can decide who will succeed Jonathan Driver, after the former mayor sadly died on New Year’s Eve following a bout of flu.
The polling stations are in Waddon Court Road, Near Prescott House; Old Town Youth Club, Duppas Hill Terrace; Waddon Infants School, Purley Way; Duppas Junior School, Goodwin Road; Howard Primary School, Dering Place; and Regina Coeli RC Primary School, Pampisford Road.
The polling stations shut at 10 pm.
The result of the election is likely to give a good indication of the borough’s inclinations for the local government elections in 2010 and the hotly contested seat of Croydon Central, currently held by independent MP Andrew Pelling.
The candidates are John Cartwright from the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, Mary Davey from the Green Party, Kathleen Garner from the UK Independence Party, Patricia Gauge from the Liberal Democrats, Clare Hilley from the Conservative Party, Charlotte Lewis from the British National Party, Ian Payne from the Labour Party, and Mark Samuel from the Peoples’ Choice party.

for which they had to produce receipts. these volunteers were happy to serve the community as a way of giving back something. if i were ever to be elected a local councillour i would give all my allowance to various charities.

Good luck Charlotte...BNP support is on the up...in recent council elections they got 30% in Tameside, a Labour 1000 majority reduced to just 8 (YES EIGHT) in Labours safest Cumbria seat. Even their website ranking is at a high today at a ranking of 45000 compared to Liebours 253,000th position ranking.
I predict BNP MEPs (plural) after Junes proportional representation elections, more BNP councillors and even BNP councils (Stoke, Dagenham etc).

That must have been on the numerous threads made by you and others turning innocent stories into your own political agenda and then denying it or ignoring it when confronted and when other people stand up to you to call you what you are. If I choose to stand up and challenge racist remarks made on this site when discussing a political story, where is your problem ? Only YOU seem to have a problem with it, probably because the spotlight isn't on you anymore I expect.
