Polling stations close as Waddon makes its choice

The polling stations have closed in the Waddon byelection as the ward makes its decision on the next councillor.

The eight candidates now must wait until the end of the count to see who will replace the late Jonathan Driver.

Coun Driver passed away on New Year’s Eve after suffering from flu, and his death prompted the byelection.

The result could be tight given the volatility of the Waddon ward, which is the borough’s most marginal ward and has seen its representation swap between the Labour and Conservative parties for many years.

In the most recent elections in 2006, the ward returned three Conservative councillors.
