People got to try their hand at some Paralympic sports last weekend.

On Saturday September 1, Monks Hill Sports Centre opened their doors for anyone who wanted to try out wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, athletics and judo.

Pearl Sethna, who ran the event, said it was great for people to experience Paralympic events.

She said: "It went really well. We wanted people to see what it is like being a Paralympian."

“I was pleased as we had a wide range of age, ability and gender all turning up to have a go. Those who came had a really good time.”

Other events are also taking place over the next week to celebrate the Paralympic games.

On Thursday 6 September from 2pm, the Queen’s Gardens outside the Town Hall will be alive with performers as part of the Mayor of London’s Showtime Series.

Also on Sunday 9 September at the Queen’s Gardens, there will Croydon’s contribution to the UK-wide Bandstand Marathon.

Hundreds of squares, parks and public spaces will be hosting some of country’s best local musicians. It will run from 1pm to 5.30pm.
