GUM lovers are being asked to chew responsibly and dispose of their sticky gum on new gum targets in Ilford Town Centre.
Redbridge Council is installing 23 GumTargets' in the town to encourage people to stick their gum on the GumSheet' where it can be collected, contained, removed and disposed of.
Cllrr Peter Goody, the council's cabinet member for highways and cleansing, said: "Discarded chewing gum is considered by the public as one of the worst forms of litter.
"Irresponsible disposal of used chewing gum is having an impact on our surroundings, it creates an impression of a poorly maintained space and generates unnecessarily expensive cleansing costs."
