A wannabe popstar is looking to raise £15,000 to release her debut album.

Mitra Djalili, 25, from Thornton Heath, has only five months to raise the cash to meet the deadline to record, release and promote the album.

However, appeals for money have so far fallen on deaf ears as she tries to get sponsorship on Facebook and Myspace.

Mitra said she has very high ratings for tracks relaesed on the music website Slicethepie, earning her the chance to showcase her songs in a special forum on the website called the Scouts Showcase.

Mitra said: “People from all over the world rate you anonymously.

“The higher your ratings, the bigger the opportunity to get in the showcase.

“I hope to raise this money and follow in the footsteps of fellow Slicethepie artists like the rock band Trail, Miranda Barber and Sarah Grace.”

Slicethepie claims it is an award-winning music website which helps unsigned artists to get publicity. Fans are instrumental in the artists’ success and are encouraged to invest in the artist by buying shares and supporting them.

Slicethepie operates differently to the big music labels because the investors deal directly with the artists.

Shareholders get returns for any money contributed if the artist successfully raises the required £15,000 and releases an album.

Mitra writes her own songs and together with her producer, has recorded several tracks.

Having played on 1Xtra and Ministry of Sound, Mitra has also done the London circuit.

She gigged at the the Ten Room in Piccadilly, The Spot, Vortex, West One Four and Spice of Life.
