Grove: Indiscipline will keep costing Scottish unless we sort it

London Scottish centre Ollie Grove slammed his side's indiscipline after a miserable defeat at bottom-club Jersey on Saturday.
 

Director of rugby Simon Amor's side gifted the hosts their first win of the Championship season as they conceded a string of penalties - 18 in total - that ultimately cost them a 20-17 defeat.
 

A second half penalty try and full back Jim Thompson's length of the pitch try from Miles Mantella's break in the final quarter, had the Islanders sweating in the closing stages having led 20-3.
 

But Grove admitted the Exiles scarcely deserved the losing bonus point they collected as the Scots suffered a third straight defeat.
 

And the former Worcester Warriors academy youngster warned Scottish would not be pulling up any trees unless they addressed their penalty and error counts sooner rather than later.
 

"When we look back at the analysis it will be the penalties that cost us," he said.
 

"To comeback from where we were and get a bonus point we might feel a bit lucky.
 

"Our discipline was pretty poor and we made a lot of errors.  We won't be beating any championship sides playing like that."
 

"We are still looking for the first win on the road so we've got find something we're not doing right and put it right.
 

"But at the end of the day if we stop giving away penalties we will start winning games.
 

"We know our attack is good and our defending was better at Jersey.  Discipline is easy to put right and we have to do that."
 

Former Richmond flanker Guy Thompson, who was man of the match, opened the scoring early for the hosts before two Michael Le Bourgeois penalties and a try from former Esher flyer James Copsey gave Jersey a 20-3 advantage.

The hosts held on despite a late Scottish fightback, much to the delight of  ex-Richmond fly half and Jersey head coach Ben Harvey.
 

"Our performance was awful really, but it wasn't about the performance.  This week was built on desire and a lot of passion," he said.
 

"We represent an island.  If our boys go out tonight they will see someone they know and people will recognise them.
 

"It brings with it its challenges, but they are conscious of the fact people are very, very supportive and when we go out and win a game like that, the island is very proud."
