Hercules Wimbledon's athletes made an impressive start to their East Surrey League programme by dominating the opening cross-country event in Lloyd Park, Croydon.

The club's youngsters won both their teams races, while the seniors just lost out after filling three of the top seven places.

Fred Slemeck led the 76-strong field home in the senior five-mile race in 28 minutes, six seconds, with Phil Glynn fourth in 29:34, and Sean Crummy seventh in 31:04.

There was a long wait before the fourth member of the scoring team, Ian Pegler, finished 32nd in 34:39.

Elsewhere, Hercules Wimbledon runners made a clean sweep in the young athletes U15 and U17 2.5 miles race with Cassian Hyde racing home a clear winner in an impressive 14:17.

He was more than a minute clear of runner-up Matthew Gibbons (15:29) and with Zoe Illis third in 16:59 - Hercules Wimbledon took the team honours with the minimum score of six points.

James Forde, Zac Purnell and Issy Pugh were second, fifth and sixth in the U13 race in 18:39, 19:39 and 19:54 respectively to again take the team honours.

Hercules Wimbledon's Steph Robson was to top veteran woman over-40 finisher in the Bakers and Holt 10km multi-terrain race in North Norfolk on Sunday.

She was 33rd out of 180 runners in 41:17. Paul Lemmon was 15th and second men's over-50 veteran in the men's race in 38:43.

Teenager Alex Lloyd-Jones posted his third individual victory when he took the Richmond Park parkrun on Saturday in 18:27, beating a 270-strong field.

The 15-year-old posted the top male age-graded performance of the day.

Hercules Wimbledon's Pat Wright broke the 17-minute barrier for the first time when he posted a personal best time of 16:56 when he headed home a 258-strong field in the Wimbledon Common parkrun to gain his first victory in 12 appearances.

Adam Harwood was sixth in 18:45 and over-50 veteran Charles Hampden-Smith 20th in 19:52, just ahead of club-mate James Wallace who was 21st in 20:05. David Harris was 26th in 20:25.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon, who took the silver medals in the Surrey road relay championships at Wimbledon Park in September, are competing in the English cross country relay championships at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield.
