Competition for places in London Welsh’s back three might have got a little bit more cosy as of last weekend – but Nick Scott insists he’s only got eyes for the positives of Tom Voyce’s first-team arrival.

Voyce made his bow for the Exiles in last Sunday’s 29-19 defeat against Wasps having been without a club since leaving Gloucester at the end of last season.

Despite turning out at full-back in his return to Aviva Premiership action Voyce has plied his trade across the back three during a career that has seen him score 66 league tries.

But rather than see the former Wasps flier’s arrival as a cause for concern Scott is relishing the opportunity to pick the brain of the nine-cap England international.

“Tom is a great player to have around because he has got such a lot of experience and this season he is going to be a great signing for the club,” he said.

“It is great for us to have competition in the back three and Tom is a versatile player so he is definitely going to keep me and rest of the guys on our toes.

“He has been more than happy to chat about things with me on the field already and I am looking forward to learning from him this season which I am sure I will do.

“He has obviously got vast experience from his career. I remember watching that Wasps team that he was in when I was growing up and they were one of the best teams for a number of years.

“I am sure he will definitely help me out if I need it and he is a great person for us to have in the team.”

Scott is only too aware the arrival of Voyce adds a little further pressure on his try tally for this term – currently sitting at a solitary one from the Exeter game in September.

However he’s adamant the pursuit of producing an error-free weekend’s work is just as important as crossing the whitewash.

“Something we have been talking about and working towards all year is making sure we have as many players as possible who are error-free during each game,” he added.

“Of course I would love to be scoring as many tries as I possibly can but being error-free is really important to us as a team and that is what I want to focus on.  I don’t care who is scoring the tries so long as we are getting some wins.”
