Brentford Football Club have made their business case for its new stadium, with plans for a hotel on site and a boon for surrounding retailers promised.

Hundreds of people visited Griffin Park last week to hear plans for Brentford FC’s new stadium in Lionel Road South, near Kew Bridge.

As well as a 20,000-seater stadium, the site would house Brentford FC’s Community Sports Trust, the Learning Zone and Brentford Boating Arch by Kew Bridge, and a hotel may be built on the west stand.

Following the exhibitions and visitor feedback, Lionel Road Developments will put together a planning application to submit to Hounslow Council.

With the pitch size suitable for football and rugby, and hospitality and conference rooms available on site, the stadium will produce revenue to secure the long-term sustainability of the club.

Developers said the multi-purpose use of the stadium would also give an economic boost to the area, with more people using the stadium and surrounding amenities.

The developer will submit a detailed plan for the stadium and an outline plan for the flats, which will be sold sell off to another developer to fund the project.

There will be limited parking at the new stadium because planners want to encourage visitors to take public transport and are working with Transport for London and Network Rail to improve Kew Bridge station.

Brian Burgess, director of Lionel Road Developments, said: “We are encouraging people to use public transport – we have a travel plan.”

He said the arrival of the new stadium to regenerate the area and bring in new businesses.

Lifelong Bees fan Gerry James who was at the exhibition was generally happy with the stadium plans and said the developers had done well with the triangular shape of the site.

He said: “It is good to move on, it only makes money every other week through the football season. Modern stadiums have to make money 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I think it is for the better.”
