GLENN Murray struck twice in the second half to seal a 2-1 victory for Crystal Palace over Charlton at Selhurst Park.

The Addicks completely dominated the first half but only had Ricardo Fuller’s 15th minute strike to show for their efforts.

Palace looked a different side after the break following the introduction of deadline day signing Kevin Phillips but it was strike partner Murray who scored in the 75th and 79th minutes to boost the Eagles’ promotion bid.

Johnnie Jackson’s third minute cross was put behind by Jazz Richards for a corner, from which Leon Cort headed over.

Lawrie Wilson appealed in vain for a penalty after seeing his shot blocked inside the area by Damien Delaney before Palace went on the attack and only a telling tackle by Chris Solly prevented Wilfried Zaha delivering a cross.

Ben Hamer wasd more than a match for Yannick Bolasie’s overhead kick but it was Charlton who took the lead on the quarter hour when Fuller latched onto a long ball from Solly, ran into the box and buried a low shot through the legs of Julian Speroni.

There was a minor scare for the visitors when Hamer spilled Richards’ cross before the Addicks keeper gathered the loose ball.

Speroni did well to stop Bradley Pritchard from lobbing him but the Eagles keeper made a hash of the resulting Johnnie Jackson corner and was lucky Cort headed over from two yards.

Jackson fired straight at Speroni on 37 minutes from eight yards and the Charlton skipper came even closer with a glancing header that went inches wide after Cedric Evina’s excellent cross was flicked into his path by Wilson.

Alex Marrow saw a long range drive go well off target just before the break, an attempt which kind of summed up a disjointed first half for the lacklustre hosts.

Ian Holloway replaced Jacob Butterfield with Phillips at the break and the debutant almost made an instant impact by setting up Zaha, whose effort went just wide.

Speroni made an excellent save to tip over Fuller’s curling 20 yard shot as he and Charlton came close to adding a second.

Phillips was denied by a decent stop from Hamer and then Stuart O’Keefe headed just over from Zaha’s fine cross.

O’Keefe and Bolasie made way for Jonny Williams and Stephen Dobie respectively in a double change by Holloway.

But Palace were back on terms in the 75th minute when Dean Moxey’s fine pass picked out Murray, who buried a shot home from inside the area.

Dobbie produced an excellent save from Hamer but moments later the Addicks keeper was beaten by Murray, who took advantage of a slip from the visiting custodian by shooting into the net.

Hamer responded well with a top save to keep out Phillips’ header before Yann Kermorgant and Danny Haynes came on for Jackson and Wilson as Chris Powell tried to freshen up his attack.

Fuller went to ground in the area a bit too easily and unsurprisingly the penalty appeal was ignored and then the lively Phillips blazed a volley over at the other end.

Murray almost completed a memorable hat-trick deep into stoppage time but placed his effort wide.

But Palace comfortably held on to complete what at half-time had looked like a very unlikely league double over the old rivals.
