The success of athletes from Wandsworth in the London Youth Games was a central feature of the Active Wandsworth Sports Awards 2012.

Although the borough would miss out of winning the Games to Croydon by a solitary point, there were plenty of stories of glory to recall.

As a nod to individual success, the David Burns award went to Tim Livingstone who competed in the aquathlon, basketball, cross country and indoor rowing – winning gold in the rowing and silver in the team cross country.

Tim, who follows in the foot-steps of the night’s special Olympic guest Winston Gordon in winning the award, said: “I want to say thank you to everyone for this award.

“It was my last London Youth Games and so I am now going to concentrate on rowing as I have the right build for the sport.”

The London Youth Games John WE David team award was won by the boys judo team, including Aaron Mahoney-Jones and Nathan Bawuah.

The team won eight individual golds and three bronze medals.

Ryan said: “Winning this award has left me speechless, it is a real honour.”

Kiyo Jason of Spencer Cricket Club picked up the coach/instructor of the year award for his work in promoting youth cricket – especially in the development of women’s and girls’s cricket.

He said: “Winning the award is fantastic, getting that acknowledgement from friends that I grew up with, the parents and the other sports stars in that hall, I love it. I feel honoured and blessed.

“I have a great team behind me, and with them and the parents we’ve created a girls’s section at the club. Their support has helped me grow the section.

“I am no different from the other guys who were nominated, they work just as hard as I do, but I am fortunate with the team I have.”

He added: “These events are brilliant for Wandsworth. It helps people get that acknowledgement for their hard work, they know what they are doing is right.

“It helps the coaches too, they need to see their athletes get acknowledgement. I was involved in the London Youth Games cricket, so I did not see too much of the other sports but I can guarantee that some of the kids in there tonight will be at the Olympics in a few years’ time.”
