Victory in all age groups confirms Kingston's rule of the Downs League
4:00pm Tuesday 12th March 2013 in Sport By Tim Ashton
Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers completed their dominance of the Downs League by winning the top prize in all three age groups.
The U11s boys’ race was won by Jorge Beltrao in 11 minutes, four seconds, with Darcy Bourne taking the first girls’ spot in 11.07 - a time that placed her second overall.
Darcy’s winning performance completed her clean-sweep of all four Downs League races, easily winning the individual girls’ title.
The overall U11 team prize was won by the Kingston contingent with room to spare, finishing 16 points ahead of Epsom & Ewell Harriers.
The U13s were even more dominant winning the team prize by 96 points from Sutton Runners AC.
Star of the show was Mollie O’Sullivan who won every race – culminating in Sunday’s win in 13:25 – and she headed a Kingston triple in the overall individual standings ahead of Rebecca Keddie and Kathryn Bartle.
For the U13 boys, Sam Shaw missed out on winning the overall individual title after he finished second on the day by just four seconds.
It allowed the day’s winner, from Sutton Runners, to claim the single point he needed to finish joint top of the individual table with Shaw.
Kingston’s Ben Paton and Finlay Hardwick finished third and fourth respectively.
Harry Reynolds (11:07) and Neil Wellard (11:08) finished first and second in the final race of the U15 age group – mirroring their final positions in the overall individual standings.
In the girls section, Lucy Fletcher finished joint top of the overall standings on points but had to settle for second as her rival had two wins, compared to Lucy’s one.
Kingston still won the overall team trophy by 72 points.
