Number eight Tom Guest admitted he is more thankful for the LV= Cup than most because it has helped him get back to his best.

The 28-year-old collected the man of the match award as Quins beat Sale Sharks  32-14 in Worcester to claim their second trophy of the season so far.

Guest has had a nightmare run of injuries over the past two years, but is approaching the form that has made him popular with Quins fans, despite playing second fiddle to Nick Easter this season.

The Richmond-based former England sevens international, pictured, has started all six LV= Cup games this season – Quins have won all six – and was on the scoresheet at Sixways.

And Guest, who might not even make the bench at Saracens on Sunday, has admitted a successful cup run has helped his cause.

“Two years ago I broke my leg and then, first game back, I broke my arm and it was never right for all of last season,” he said.

“I feel like I’m finally getting back into some form and understanding my game again.

“It is surprising that you might have played rugby all your life and you can forget what you need to do and lose focus on what your strengths are and why you are playing in the team.

“If you are not playing well you start thinking too much. You just need to relax a bit and that is what the LV= Cup has been great for, because it helps you just enjoy the game.

“It is coming together and I’m happy with the way I’m playing. I just need a stretch of games now. I might not even be on the bench this week. You’ve got the England captain coming back, Nick Easter, Mo [Fa’asavalu], Luke [Wallace] and Joe Trayfoot coming through.

“For them not to be on the pitch would be quite harsh, so that is why you have to take the opportunity as much as possible and enjoy the game.”

Quins remain in the hunt for Premiership and Heineken Cup honours and their clinical approach bore fruit at the weekend – scoring two tries from their first two visits to the Sharks’ 22.
