Brentford’s Adam Forshaw is loving the competition for places in the middle of the park.

Forshaw, who scored in Saturday’s pre-season 2-1 defeat to the Scottish champions Celtic, said the strength in depth of the Bee’s midfield is only a good thing for boss Uwe Rosler.

And despite the defeat, the 21-year-old is taking positives from the game.

He said: “There was a really quick tempo out there, especially in the first half.

“I thought we passed the ball well and competed really well. We got what we needed out of it.

“It is always disappointing to lose, the manager wants to win and we have a group of players that hate to lose.

“As a team we can take a lot of positives from our pre-season so far, both for fitness and performances.”

Forshaw’s midfield partners on the day were George Saville and Alan McCormack.

Jake Reeves, who played in the win over Millwall on Tuesday, was on the bench while Jonathan Douglas and Toumani Diagouraga missed the match through injury.

“We have real strength in depth in the midfield,” said Forshaw.

“Competition for places can only be good. It brings out the best in people. You want to be better to stay in the team.

“Personally, I was happy with 90 minutes and I can kick on. I haven’t played 90 yet so it was good to step it up.”

Brentford go to Boreham Wood tomorrow evening, before hosting newly promoted Cardiff City on July 30.
