Uwe Rosler is adamant that morale in the Brentford camp is better than ever ahead of this weekend’s big kick-off.

The Bees start their new League One assault at Port Vale on Saturday, aiming to vanquish the horrid memories from the end of the last campaign.

But Rosler is satisfied the team has taken big steps in that direction, pointing to the manner of the 3-2 victory over Premier League side Cardiff City on Tuesday night as testament to his side’s confidence levels.

Having found themselves 2-0 down after 15 minutes, Conor McAleny bagged two goals to bring the score level, and a late Paul Hayes effort completed the turnaround.

Rosler said: “There are a lot of positive things that came out of the Cardiff game, and we go into Saturday’s game full of confidence.

“We got a lesson that night that not everything goes smoothly, but we reacted excellently when faced with that test, which was very good to see.

“How the team came back against a Premier League side is obviously a boost to morale.”

Rosler has handed the number one shirt to David Button, despite the stopper only making his debut against Cardiff.

The manager said: “It was a difficult decision but I thought because I wanted him to start on Saturday, he had to play on Tuesday.

“He’s a quality keeper and we’re very happy to have him. There is good competition as Jack Bonham has had a fantastic pre-season.”

The games come thick and fast, with the visit of Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday in the Capital One Cup.
