Gillingham 1 Brentford 1

Despite dominating possession during the first half, the Bees struggled to create clear cut chances and after falling behind just before the break. During a more evenly matched second half it looked as if they would leave empty handed, until substitute Farid El Alagui scored a late leveller.

Kicking off in blustery conditions, Brentford threatened first when Alan McCormack picked up a clearance and found Shaleum Logan on the right, with the full back shooting wide left from 25 yards out.

Shortly after, Adam Forshaw's free kick from wide on the left was headed into the hands of Stuart Nelson by Harlee Dean from a promising position.

After Tony Craig was fouled two yards outside the box, Forshaw curled a free kick over both the wall and the cross-bar.

A free flowing move took the Bees from their own box to the edge of Gillingham's, from where Logan and Toumani Diagouraga exchanged passes, before the midfielder fired over.

Midway through the half the home side had their first chance when Myles Weston set up a move down the left, which ended with Charlie Lee shooting over from outside the box.

Will Grigg showed some lovely footwork when he danced across the edge of Gillingham's box, before shooting wide.

Brentford looked to have taken the lead when McCormack made a surging run to the right of the box but his cross was headed home by Clayton Donaldson from an offside position.

The home side went ahead five minutes before the break when Weston's deep cross to the back post was headed back across the box by Danny Kedwell and Bayo Akinfenwa's shot just beat the outstretched palm of David Button.

On the hour mark substitute Conor McAleny broke down the left and found Forshaw, whose ambitious shot from 25 yards beat Stuart Nelson but couldn't beat the post as it cannoned off and went behind.

Weston came close to doubling the home side's lead when he broke clear but his shot was well saved by a diving Button.

McAleny and Logan combined down the left again, before Donaldson's shot was deflected onto the post.

Deep into stoppage time Forshaw floated a free kick out to the left and McCormack headed the ball into the six yard box, from where substitute Farid El Alagui bundled the ball home in front of the Bees fans.
