Swans boss Baker: "Cut out the stupid mistakes or you're out the club"
Walton & Hersham boss Steve Baker demanded his players cut out the stupid mistakes ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Horsham.
Following a 1-0 win at Corinthian Casuals on Saturday, the Swans went down 2-0 at home to Walton Casuals on Monday – a result Baker lays firmly at the feet of Steven Betancourt after the defender was sent off with the scores level.
The Swans have lost two out of six Ryman Division One South games, and in both games they were reduced to 10 men.
Now, with the financial rewards of the FA Cup preliminary round up for grabs, Baker wants no more foul ups.
“In the four games where we finished with 11 players, we’ve picked up 10 points and in the two games where we’ve had a man sent off, we’ve picked up none – you do the maths,” he said.
“Against Walton Casuals we were much the better tea, but then Steven went in two-footed for no reason and had to be sent off.
“I don’t know why he did it and it cost us the game. It was sweltering day and we’d played 48 hours earlier, so it could not have come at a worse time.
“I told him in the dressing room that he had let me, the staff and supporters down and that if it happened again, he would not play for us anymore.
“It’s what I told Mark [McLeod] after he was sent off against Hythe. I am not talking about harsh sendings off or two yellow cards, I am talking about the stupid mistakes which we must eradicate if we’re to do anything in the league.”
