AFC Wimbledon’s two-goal hero Michael Smith has been amazed by the strength of the Dons travelling army.
More than 400 faithful fans made the 450-mile round trip to York City on Saturday and they were rewarded with a 2-0 win – the Dons third consecutive League Two victory.
Smith is expecting a large away following again this weekend when the Dons go to league leaders Chesterfield.
Aside from the York game, 1,226 went to Griffin Park to watch the Dons go out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Smith said: “There must be a very big fan base as the fans come out in their hundreds to give us brilliant support.
“The fact so many went all the way to York is great for us, and gives us players a real boost.
“We had more than 1,000 at Brentford, and I know that is only round the corner but it is a measure of the great support.”
He added: “It is even better when we can reward them with three points, hopefully we can do the same this weekend.”
The Dons faithful were also rewarded with a hard-as-nails performance from centre back Andy Frampton who needed four stitches after a clash of heads with York's Matt Jarvis.
Despite having heavy bandaging, Frampton and his defensive cohorts would not be beaten.
Smith said: "I did not see the clash of heads, but then Framps came on with what looked like a hat on.
"He's an old pro and knows how to handle himself, but these days players leave the field if they cut a finger, so Framps is a bit of a hard nut."
