Brentford boss Uwe Rosler has insisted fans will not see the best of new boy Will Grigg for a while yet.

The 22-year-old, who only  had his move to Griffin Park ratified by tribunal last month, was named in the Northern Ireland squad for forthcoming World Cup qualifiers in Azerbaijan and Isreal over the next fortnight.

He was also called up to Michael O'Neill's squad for last month's qualifiers against Portugal and Luxemburg.

As a result, Grigg has had a stop start beginning to his Bees career having opened his goalscoring account with a double in an impressive home win over Sheffield United.

He scored 20 goals last term in his breakthrough season at Walsall, which prompted Rosler’s swoop for the highly rated youngster.

But his Blades double aside, he has hardly inspired the hard-to-please Bees faithful since, while his manager has pleaded for patience and for the doubters to give his man a chance.

“Will has been unlucky. His time here so far has been a bit disjointed,” said Rosler.

“He is a young player having to deal with high expectations, so it is going to take time for him to adjust.

“People have to learn how to play with him and get the best out of him. He has to get to learn how to play with the new players around him. That all takes time.

“The problem has been that he played and got injured, then got sick, got injured again and has been called up for Northern Ireland,  so he has not had a real run at it yet.

“Once he has had a long spell with us he will find the form he had last year it just takes time.”

The same could be said about the Bees stop start to the campaign that sees them 10th in the table after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Rotherham United at Griffin Park.

But with games against struggling Stevenage, Colchester United, Bristol City and Shrewsbury Town to come this month and the competitive return of influential midfielder Jonathan Douglas imminent, the manager is confident of a consistent run of form.

“This league is much stronger than last season. That is for sure,” he added.

“People have to be realistic.  We might not have the amount of points we wanted by October, but you have to look at what has happened.

“Jonathan Douglas has not kicked a ball, we’ve lost Jake Bidwell and Conor McAleney to injury and we have had a goalkeeper suspended for three games.

“We have not been a settled side, but we have games coming up where we can get points.

“As long as we do not lose the level of performance we have found then we will start moving up the table.”

Bees midfielder Stuart Dallas scored on his Northampton Town debut as the Cobblers, who he joined on a month long loan on Friday, won 2-0 at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
