Met Police boss Jimmy Cooper fears 19-year-old striker Tobi Alabi may never kick a football again.

The former Millwall academy star collapsed during a 7-1 friendly win over near neighbours Molesey – an incident that bore all the hallmarks of former Bolton Wanderers’ star Fabrice Muamba’s fight for life at White Hart Lane in 2012.

Alabi regained consciousness and was well enough to watch the rest of the match from the stands before heading to Darent Valley Hospital hospital in Kent – close to where he lives in Erith – where he was admitted for treatment.

He has since been transferred to St Thomas’s Hospital in central London where he has since been diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – the same condition that almost claimed Muamba’s life.

The former Hampton & Richmond Borough loanee continues to undergo a serious of tests, and Cooper is not expecting to see the youngster any time soon.

“It is not looking good. They wired him up on a treadmill the other day and he fainted again,” he said on Tuesday night.

“I feel awful for the kid. He is so young. I don’t expect him to play football again, let alone play for us.

“In many ways he is quite lucky. Lucky in the fact that it was not as serious as Fabrice, but he does not see it that way. He just wants to be back playing football.”

The Blues secured a 2-1 FA Trophy triumph over Thamesmead Town, thanks to an influential showing from returning Crawley Town loanee Jonte Smith and a Ryan James double.

The win sets up a second qualifying round trip to Ryman Premier League rivals Hampton & Richmond Borough, who won their replay 2-0.
