Croydon Harriers James Dasaolu made a successful defence of his British Indoor 60m title on Saturday at English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.

The 26-year-old again had the delight of beating his domestic rival Dwain Chambers, who has won the British indoor title in Sheffield on five occasions, by equalling his season’s best of 6.50secs.

Interestingly, this was the exact same time he beat Belgrave Harriers rep Chambers in their Glasgow clash two weeks ago, and the duo are expected to meet again at Birmingham Grand Prix this Saturday.

Meanwhile, the British victory secures Dasaolu a place in the British team for next month’s IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland.

I’m happy to defend my title,” he said. “I didn’t get the best of starts but still managed to run 6.50.

“It’s the same as what I ran in my first race so I know there’s more to come.

“Saturday was all about doing three rounds in one day and coming through unscathed with no injuries and booking myself on that plane.”

Also in Sheffield, Croydon resident James Ellington ended seventh (6.67) in men’s 60m final while Crystal Palace-based Serita Solomon (8.24) finished behind eventual winner Gemma Bennett in women’s 60m hurdles.
