It’s all about the money this week at Wimbledon, as the domestic bangers have a £500 prize pot up for grabs - that is apart from local favourite, Keith Conlon.

Conlon, team captain of The Bandits team, has been hit with a charge of seeking to gain an advantage, and has been suspended for three months with immediate effect.

A spokesman for Spedeworth International, the sport’s promoters at Wimbledon raceway, confirmed that after previous warnings had not been heeded, Conlon had indeed been banned for three months.

The news broke just before last week’s meeting, and was immediately the talking point of the night on the terraces and then social media.

Conlon and his team mates have been involved in an on-track feud for the past few weeks, which has certainly livened up proceedings.

His omission will be a loss, but the rules are in place to ensure a level playing field for all.

However, talented a driver Conlon is, he is not above redress.

Tonight is the penultimate round of the 16-round Refine Metals Track Championship, which concludes at the season’s final meeting on March 23.

With just two rounds to go, the top two places have suddenly become very tight with just 12 points separating Mark Pope and Rob Haines.

A combination of league points and the cash prize should lead to an eventful evening.

The 2l hot rods are back for their final outing at Plough Lane before the spring break with the drivers racing in round three of the Hoosier Racing Tire series.

Leading the series currently is Damon Wellman who will be looking to increase his lead when the two heats and meeting final are completed.

Two stock car style formulas look to add some flavour of their own to the evening’s racing.

The historic stock cars at Wimbledon over the winter have been good value, as the mostly former banger drivers show all the fans what stock car racing used to be like back in the good old days.

Also on Sunday’s bill are the youngsters in the Ministox formula - while a little low on grid numbers at times, those on track have delivered some superb close quarter racing.

When the minis were last in the capital in February, the star of the show was lady driver Lauren Overy.

With a great start to the season Lauren will be looking to put the boys in their places again this time around.

Tonight's first race starts at 5.30pm.
